So #Starmer claims he won’t resign:

“The voters have sent a message about the pace of change, how they want their lives improved. They was elected to meet those challenges. And I’m not going to walk away from those challenges and plunge the country into chaos.”

Mate, the country is in chaos. Nothing works and what have you done? Tinkered at the edges, while sat in a corporate football box.

What utterly depressing news to wake up to this morning… 😔

I mean, I knew it was going to be disastrous but seeing the reality of votes being tallied up, the UK in all corners has decided it wants fascists/racists aligned with MAGA to be in power 🤬

What a complete shitshow 🫠

increasingly clear that when tech nerds refer to "AGI" they just mean trying to invent a type of girl who will like them

After taking a quick look at the "Prompt API" document, I decided to write some design notes towards a fork of the #Web.

Important rules for the "age verification" era of the internet that we're living in:

1. Do not do age verification.

2. If you have to do age verification, cheat. Do not under any circumstances give them your real ID.

No one.

But that's not the point now, is it? The point is to further undermine the bargaining position of actual musicians.

That's the point. That's always been the point, that's always been the goal.

It's not that AI-generated "music" is good, or that people want it, or that it's even music. The point has been to use AI, however bad or broken it is, as an excuse to undermine the financial position of artists.

As is typical for actually existing AI, its purpose is to undermine labor.

Yesterday, one of the younger electricians was telling me about the beauty of the new alarm systems he installs. While acknowledging the quality of my current one, he said, "It uses a SIM card and calls you. The new ones are 4G or Wi-Fi and use the cloud, so notifications go straight to your smartphone, it's not calling anymore."

I asked him, "And what if the cloud stops working? Why should I have to depend on the company’s cloud to receive alerts from my alarm? My alarm is 10 years old and works perfectly. Can you say with certainty that the company’s cloud will still be effective 10 years from now?"

He looked puzzled for a moment, then admitted he had never thought about it.

The real problem is that people do not realize what this means until things actually happen.

When people ask, "How can I promote my art when the world is going to shit"

I hear that as, "How do I have the right to make art when the world is going to shit"

And...

We need art more than ever during such times. You need to be making art more than ever during such times. And promoting it is part of the process.

indeed; stop eating them, and stop #spain's plans to "farm" them in extremely cruel conditions...

I have spent my entire social, political, intellectual, and professional career advocating for individuality, community, collaboration, excellence, ecology, and abundance.

LLMs -- for coding or any other activity -- are anti-individual, anti-community, anti-collaboration, anti-excellence, anti-ecology, and anti-abundance.

They are a corruption of virtually every ideal I hold and every practice I advocate.
