I turned 35 today, so I'm giving myself a gift.

I'm absolving myself of having to think about AI anymore. And I finally wrote about it somewhere durable to free myself from feeling like I need to keep reiterating my position.

I’m Tired of Talking About AI

I don’t want to talk about LLMs anymore.

Twenty years ago today we released the little web framework we’d developed at the Lawrence Journal-World to help us build news sites and apps. We hoped maybe a couple of other media outlets, and maybe a few in the Python community, might find it useful. Never in a million years could I have predicted what happened next… https://www.djangoproject.com/weblog/2025/jul/13/happy-20th-birthday-django/

2025 is apparently the year when I finally figure out how to use a regular old VPS instead of overly-fancy PaaS nonsense. There’s a lot of mental friction, but this is probably for the best.
We went to a tiny theater in a nearby town for the matinee showing of Superman today and it was delightful. A bunch of old, quiet, respectful people who weren't messing with their phones. And they had subtitles on!
I finally got my copy of Other Networks by @loriemerson! My local book store came through even though I was afraid hope was lost when the publisher went out of business.
I live my life by a simple rule
I’m here for all the old Apple nostalgia I’m seeing on here in light of what a shit show it’s become in recent years.
No. I don’t ever want to jump on a call. Ever. In my experience, Extroverts (usually unintentionally) take advantage of Introverts on the phone. I find the playing field to be level when everyone has to type.

If I want to go the VPS route but don't want to use Hetzner, what are decent alternatives that are less expensive than DigitalOcean?

And SHOULD I be looking at VPS for #Django?

My goal is to get off of Fly.io.

And while we're at it, if I want to host outside the US, does it matter if the company is US-based vs wherever the server location I select is?
