I put some random thoughts about LLMs and AI on LinkedIn. I didn’t praise them. But I admitted that, as tools, they have a benefit. And as tech/science, I think they’re fundamentally cool.
Mostly, I just don’t love them and have my own, personal issues with them. This is without even diving into ethical concerns.
Folks whom I’ve never met on LinkedIn were very quick to jump in and tell me that they’re wonderful. Why?
Extra odd since I usually get little attention there.

I’ve wanted one for years for nostalgia + experimentation. Should’ve picked one up back when they were affordable, but life was too busy.
I’m a user/collector — not a reseller — if that makes a difference :)

The snow was above these garden beds. Now that it’s melted (temporarily) I can see what needs to be done again and get back to planning homestead projects.
I want to grow more food to offset going freelance. It’s expensive in Maine!
Things I’d love to do this year:
- get a bunch of hemlock boards to build more above-ground garden beds (better in Northern climates)
- get a hoop house (large greenhouse)
- build a farm stand
Going to need to make $$$ or barter.

I’m thinking about switching one of my boxes from Fedora Server to an immutable OS.
I’m leaning toward NixOS simply because of its Docker support — and a lot of software I play with in my homelab are easy to experiment with by just using their provided docker compose file.
Unfortunately podman and podman compose are often not 1-1 equivalent once they become complex and I’m too lazy to “translate” them.
Independent developers & consultants: If you don’t have a portfolio, what do you put on your website to signal what you can do? I am struggling, short of basically summarizing my resume.
Back in 2007-2013 I had all word of mouth so this marketing thing is foreign to me. Thanks!
