🚧 Revised Maintenance for Sept 4-5

We’ll be reattempting the data migration to the new NAS after having identified the issues with ElasticSearch and Redis.

We will be taking the services offline tomorrow (Wed, Sept 4th) at 10 PM US Mountain Time. We expect the data migration and service restoration should be completed by Noon on Thursday, Sept 5th.

🚧 8/30 Infrastructure Maintenance

We’ll be performing an overnight data migration from the shared NAS to the new dedicated Pawb.Social NAS.

The maintenance will take place overnight from 11 PM US Mountain Time, and is expected to be online again by 11 AM US Mountain Time on Saturday, Aug 31st (tomorrow).

We’ll do our best to have the services back online sooner assuming the remaining transfer and file verification completes early.

Please be aware that, along with the DNS hijacking of #FurAffinity, their Twitter/X account has been hijacked as well and is posting some pretty nasty stuff. Seemingly linked to KiwiFarms, but no clue if it's actually from a user or whatever.

Avoid visiting FurAffinity's site for a while, and avoid their Twitter (which has had its handled and name changed)... You can stay up to date with what's going on with FA on their Discord( http://discord.gg/furaffinity ) server, which is unaffected. They are posting updates and annoucements there.

We lost a great person today -- he provided the foundation for the furry fandom to exist as it does today, & without him many connections wouldn't have been made.

We realize this will impact our users but feel that given the circumstances, a review of the instance’s policies, and a review of the admin team interactions we’ve seen, we feel this is the appropriate choice.

On recommendation from other federated admins, Pawb.Social will be affecting defederation against linuxrocks.online for the following reasons:

Lack of moderation: Moderation of basic decencies is expected and required for any instances Pawb.Social federates with, including reasonable rules or community guidelines. The team there have openly embraced content that is objectively transphobic, conspiracy-oriented, and anti-LGBTQ+.
Harassment of reporters: No admin or moderator of an instance should release report information, let alone try to go after remote users for their reports.
Platforming of hate speech: We will not tolerate federation with any instance that openly abides by the kind of content that adversely affects the lives of our users, nor puts them in a place where they have to defend their right to exist.
