I used to think "AI killing us all is unrealistic, nobody would just plug it into the nukes" but I have since come to the conclusion that, yes, AI will kill us all because yes, some AI-addled, brainlet cryptobro will fucking plug it into the fucking nukes. It fails repeatedly, burning THEM and they keep insisting that everyone who's skeptical of it are actually the crazy ones.
I personally believe the most logical, and long-term sustainable solution with the most control to the "Android becoming more closed" threat, is to fund and support @postmarketOS and alike initiatives.
a fully decentralised solution developed by the whole FOSS ecosystem together is infinitely better than depending on the whims and generosity of big tech companies.
And, they still get to support the ecosystem by committing Linux/etc patches upstream, it just has better power balance in the end.
@anthropy @postmarketOS in fairness, this is the solution to every problem corporate tech has foist upon us. legislation is great, it is welcome and we should push for and advocate for it - but it is not enough, and what legislation there should be should be extremely high level, like, Constitutional-amendment level protections for open-source code.
that's how you build a system that is not fragile to fascists.
