Pianist, composer, philosopher (music, film, German philosophy). Otherwise: father, soccer fan (Fulham, Freiburg), border collie and Robert Mitchum enthusiast.
Ba dum dum dum.

Hey folks, introduction. Long time microtonalist, just intonation is my thing. Minimalism is my path again. Music on Bandcamp now, old videos on youTube.

I used to play guitar, broke my elbows in 2009. I finally gave up on gtr a few years ago, but use VST to make music now. Pianoteq & Surge help in the tuning dept.

David Beardsley

David Beardsley: composer, usually microtonal just intonation, sometimes minimalism, sometimes not. “Beardsley sculpts tones into overpowering moods…” - Kyle Gann (the Village Voice) "slow music for fast times" - Steve Smith (WNYC/Gothamist, NY Times)

I don’t think music can/will go back to what it was before. Wrote this essay comparing this situation to the sudden end of the big bands in the early 1940s https://dadadrummer.substack.com/p/working-wherever-we-may

Thanksgiving Eve #Noirvember viewing for me was THE HOUSE ON TELEGRAPH HILL ('51). Polish woman (played by Italian actress Valentina Cortese) steals dead friend's identity and "inherits" her son, who turns out is rich. Son's caretakers may not be so thrilled. Engaging story, and it did surprise me with how it played out. Sometimes described as "gothic", but not really. Fun fact: Cortese married co-lead Richard Basehart after meeting him on this. #filmnoir #classichollywood #oldhollywood

Review in the TLS by Emily Thomas about my new book HOW TO BE YOU!

"Cleary’s book, despite its brightly hued cover, probes deeper and demands more on the part of the reader… There is much to admire in a book written for a popular audience that rejects simplification in its exploration of complex, politically sensitive issues.”

Hi all. Reaching out to see if anyone on the South Shore of #Massachusetts or in the #Boston area could boost this...

My coworker and friend, Mike King, has gone missing. He and I are on together every night on WBZ; him doing traffic, me doing news.
He has been missing since yesterday. He never showed up for work. We are all extremely worried about him.

If you are in #Weymouth, #Braintree, #Hingham, anywhere nearby. please keep an eye out. Thank you.

I'm grading some good student essays on #Rousseau, drinking some unfortunate #tea (Tazo's Earl Grey is at most a baron or a member of the landed gentry), and listening to/occasionally dancing to Thomas #Adès.* Will probably wrap up with a little #Kant and #filmnoir later. Not a bad night.

*Nancarrow Studies and In Seven Days.

And now I'm deep enough into this report that I think I might have another Kant paper in me. Dammit.
