Polish woman (played by Italian actress Valentina Cortese) steals dead friend's identity and "inherits" her son, who turns out is rich. Son's caretakers may not be so thrilled. Engaging story, and it did surprise me with how it played out. Sometimes described as "gothic", but not really. Fun fact: Cortese married co-lead Richard Basehart after meeting him on this. #filmnoir #classichollywood #oldhollywood
