Good news. Thomson Reuters Wins First Major AI Copyright Case in the US: This decision has big implications for the battle between generative AI companies and rights holders. Ross Intelligence was shut down in 2021, citing the cost of litigation. However, the biggest offenders like OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, perplexity, Claude, and Google have deep pockets. Let us hope they lose too.

This is an interesting article, but it misses a broader and more important point about #AI #crippleware. The only reason for #OpenAI to offer less-censored models is the public's increasing awareness of just how useless a heavily-censored AI can be.

1/ If you're a surgeon, an AI that tells you it won't discuss cutting someone with a sharp object is useless.

2/ If you're a cryptologist, an AI that refuses to discuss code-breaking is a waste of time.

3/ If you're a martial artist, having an AI refuse to describe the proper technique for applying chokeholds provides zero value.

A hammer that won't pound a nail unless it's been properly coaxed or granted explicit permission by the hammer's manufacturer is at best a novelty item rather than a useful work tool. The idea that you can create #AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) predicated on #nannyfilters is pure snake oil. It's only peddled by unscrupulous companies that know better while hoping that you don't.

Pro tip on on leading #businessagility: A good cadence is *predictable*. For true business agility, predictable means "routine" or "stable," not "immutable." Predictable events and delivery cadences create confidence and trust, so please treat predictability as a foundational requirement for your strategic programs, not as a "nice to have" bonus feature.

Is the length of a sprint fixed or can it be changeable whenever the team want to?

I recently started learning scrum, I've learned that a sprint has a limited period that can be between 1 to 6 weeks and during which the team build an increment, My question is: If for example, a t...

Today's #PMSE share is about how to express #productdevelopment dependencies in #Jira. First, stop letting your tools drive your process. Second, make your tools support your process! Hope this helps others besides the OP.

Ticket Scoping for Integration Tests and New Components of System

I am a software engineer trying my best to scope out some work in ticket form. My question is: what is the best way to write stories to include integration tests between two components which don't...

Several of my unique views on #Scrum were recently quoted by a #softwarevendor. While not a product endorsement, I hope my pragmatic views are helpful to those of you who use Scrum or similar frameworks.

I'm all for #ESG & environmentally conscious business practices, but you have to apply common sense.

More electricity, time, coffee, and other resources are spent trying to document, debug, and maintain code than in writing DAMP tests. This works against the stated goal.

#Businessleaders should define goals. However, implementation details are often best left to those who understand the impact of the various trade-offs within a given #businessdomain or problem space.

@ervan With respect, the client's premise is flawed. More electricity, time, coffee, and other resources are spent trying to document, debug, and maintain code than in writing DAMP tests. The more shared context you have for each test, the less granular the tests are and the less useful individual failure message becomes. This isn't just an anti-pattern; it actually works against their ethical objectives.

Having #strategicgoals with objectively-measurable #KPIs & #OKRs is important, whether they're business or personal. Even incremental improvements have value.

I'm very #metrics-driven, so you'd think being in the 99th percentile on multiple SE sites would be enough, but I plan to crack the top 0.10% on both sites by focusing on tags I haven't focused enough on lately to gain 0.12% and 0.02% respectively. Succeed or fail, it will be both fun & useful to track the targets.

As a member of @theia I wanted to pass long this achievement. šŸŽ‰ā€‹ for standing up for #FOSS and #CreativeCommons licensing in the age of #AI.

On October 17th, the institute formally responded to the U.S. Copyright Office's recent inquiry regarding #AI systems and their impact on #copyrightlaw and #publicpolicy (U.S. Copyright Office, 2023, Aug. 30, "Artificial Intelligence and Copyright", Federal Register, 2023-18624, Document ID COLC-2023-0006-0001). Our six-page response incorporated our editorial board's recent discussions around this topic, our published guidance for integrating AI with secure #SDLC, and related open-source and open-content licensing concerns. Latin America is not known for having high figures when it comes to R&D spending. And yet, the region's profile in tech keeps rising. Why is that?
