On April 29, 1917 Richthofen’s forty-ninth victory was against a Spad VII, No. B.1573. It would also supersede his previous three victories in a day by downing one more enemy plane. Richthofen’s 48th
April 28, 1917, LT. Follit’s BE.2e, No. 7221 ,would be the Baron’s 33rd of 45 two-seater victories against the Royal Flying Corps. Both Follit and his Observer Kirkham survived the crash, but Follit died an hour later of his wounds and was buried in the field. His grave was lost due to the turmoil of war. Kirkham, on the other hand, was slightly wounded.

When an enemy squadron flew past the German lines on March 25, Richthofen went up and overtook the last enemy plane. The Nieuport 23, No. A6689, with a Lewis gun mounted on the top wing, flown by Lt. Christopher G. Gilbert of the RFC 29th Squadron, took on only a few shots from the Baron's guns. These few shots were enough to stop the Nieuport's propeller, causing the plane to drop out of the action.
