Are we building a new world here? Have we crossed the Atlantic?

Such a strange, happy moment: when you're ready (almost) to let go of the book you've been writing for the last four years.

Sent Black River, my Delhi novel, to my agent this week. A sense of great relief that it's done, but also a sadness other writers will understand, as you prepare to leave the world you've been obsessed by for so many years.

Please share stories of when you were compelled to make yourself vulnerable, and you were met with such kindness that you still can't get over it.

Like, once, I got disqualified from a scholarship because prof didn't send recommendation on time.

So, hurt and betrayed beyond measure, I found another scholarship I could apply to with an insane deadline. I then went to this other prof who was in the middle of a conference, but wrote me a long, glowing and invested reco with such kindness.

It's so maddening, this rubbish freeloading narrative that #JNU students are accused of. Imagine if you had very little money but you wanted to learn and get a degree very badly and you had no option but to pay an amount you cannot afford to make it work. You would end up paying not just the money you don't have, but years repaying loans. You would also pay with withering nerves, and double the energy trying to make money for immediate survival because everything is twice as you.
