OK, so I finally got my new Mastodon instance straightened out, upgraded, and seems reliable. I'll be migrating my account here to @tim at some point soon. Vacation tomorrow, and I need to get to bed now for an early morning run, so things may not be final until later this week.
@hyoyoonkang @hipsterelectron yep, I've been using @Tusky for a long time. It's a solid Android app IMO.
@ricard I think I'm inclined to stick with Mastodon as I'm also hoping to migrate my account there, actually I have 3 Mastodon accounts that I sort of made in error when I start back a few years ago and now I realize that was a mistake. Since I'm only going to be hosting Mastodon for just me on the instance I'll give the 1CPU/1Gb droplet a go. The 1-click setup of Mastodon on a DO droplet is actually pretty simple to get going.

There was some chat the other day about removing jQuery from WordPress plugins.

Much of what jQuery did is now built into "vanilla" JS. AND there are new ways to do what jQuery helped you do.

If you still use jQuery, here's a quick intro to the alternatives:

So I was considering migrating to my own #Mastodon instance, not because I don't want to stay here but for the pure reason of owning my own content. I generally publish content to my blog which is shared here and comments/likes are captured on those posts, however there are a lot of Toots, like this that don't scale well with that setup.

Am I crazy to attempt to use a DO droplet with only 1CPU/1GB RAM? Masto.host is closed currently, but looks like I could go with https://ossrox.org/.

@jasontucker I'm actually working on setting up my own Mastodon instance with the hope that I can have a little more control over what my "feed" looks like.
@jasontucker same, I have to believe that once the dust starts to settle things will be back to "normal" around here. I think the decentralized nature of Mastodon is going to come with it a lot of questions from people. I would hope though that people just start posting on the topics they care about beyond Mastodon and we can focus on those conversations.
@developerjustin yeah, I'm seeing that as well. I think this is the pain of all of the new users flooding into mastodon.social. I'm thinking about spinning up my own Mastodon instance and migrating to it just to take the pressure off the admins and some of the main instances.

Late Night Saturday Long Run

It didn't work out to get my run in this morning so I headed out tonight, but it sure was a challenge running into some of those 25+ mile/hour wind gusts. #HWI #Run4Water #GroundhogMarathon #Garmin #Running
