@Viss To be fair, no company has your back when it comes to a law enforcement request. The only way they can is to not have the data to start with.
@ridogi Yeah, that seems to match my so-far limited experience. And the biggest scam is that it seems you cannot remove your business from Yelp. I should never have added it!
Just got a rejection for a job I applied to almost 5 months ago. No communication from them at all between then and now. Guess what, company that I won’t name… I rejected YOU a long time ago, not the other way around.
They also have been repeatedly calling and e-mailing me, telling me I’m missing leads. I’ve told them I don’t have budget at the moment for paid Yelp services, but they just ignore me and continue with the sales pitch.
@Epic_Null Well, as a consumer, it’s got me wondering whether I can rely on the Yelp reviews, which is just about the only thing on Yelp I ever use. If they’re using AI to filter reviews, that’s hugely problematic.

Is Yelp a scam?

I have a listing for my business on Yelp, and had two people leave me 5-star reviews. I discovered today that Yelp’s AI has hidden those reviews, as it felt they were “not helpful.” 🤬🤬🤬

i don't care that you can now write apps by prompts. AI is built on decades of my code, forum and blog posts, and my social media posts. AI is burning a shit ton of money to allow you to use the internet we built to enrich a few tech bros and make you expendable.

so, no, i don't want to hear about how great the new model is.

Happy to share the public release of fashion command-line tool, to compute file cryptographic signatures and match files according to cryptographic digests. The project is written in Swift and supports many algorithms including CryptoKit Hash, SSDeep (C bridging), TLSH (C wrapper), SymHash, CDHash, etc.. https://melomac.com/posts/introducing-fashion-command-line-tool/

@parkerortolani @talkingmoose I remember all the mismanagement and poor decisions at Apple in the last years before Steve Jobs came back. I actually started to think about what I would do for work if Apple went out of business. I knew Macintosh computers very well, but I couldn’t go work in IT for Windows machines, because I’d never used them. I will always be grateful to Steve Jobs for saving the company.

Unfortunately, I see a lot of mismanagement and poor decision making creeping back in these days. I worry about what will happen to Apple in the years ahead, and I’m thankful that my career no longer depends on Apple.
