"When Hugo Parra was arrested last year on felony charges, his pleas of innocence fell on deaf ears," reports the Times of San Diego: San Diego police had a description of the Alfa Romeo car he was riding in [but no license plate number] and a witness who identified him during a curbside lineup as...
🚨 Companies producing the worst #surveillance technologies like #spyware are gathered in Europe at this very moment at the ISS World Europe in Prague, Czech Republic.
❌ There should be no support in the EU for an event like this which normalises spyware abuse, surveillance, human rights violations and complicity with the genocide in Gaza.
👀 Do you want to resist surveillance tech like spyware with us? Watch the video and join the Keep It Safe and Secure campaign ➡️ https://edri.org/take-action/our-campaigns/keep-it-safe-and-secure/
🚨 From 2-4 June, Czech Republic is hosting ISS World Europe, a #surveillance industry trade fair where some of the most harmful and invasive surveillance tools like #spyware are traded and promoted.
🚫 Such a marketplace for digital repression tools, connected to companies directly involved in war crimes, human rights violations, and the genocide in Gaza, should have no place in the EU.
✊🏽We are calling for an immediate cutting of EU's ties with the ISS. Our statement ➡️ https://edri.org/our-work/statement-end-complicity-with-iss-world-europe/

ISS World Europe is an annual surveillance industry trade fair where the most invasive technologies for mass surveillance, data harvesting and tracking of individuals are traded and promoted.
I’m on the fringes of a Claude-adjacent discussion. I’ve been abundantly clear that I want nothing to do with it.
It’s being considered for a thing I’ve put some prior thinking into.
Thing is, even if it works on a superficial level (or deeper), its use is antithetical to the project.
Tech continues to make me want to abandon tech

Tech continues to make me want to abandon tech
I feel this in my bones...
Meanwhile in #Germany the conservative government has:
* Removed the legal right of #migrants to access public defence. Most will now go into #migration detention without a lawyer.
* Empowered itself to unilaterally define "secure return countries" aka places from where people lose their right to #asylum and can be deported back to without their case being heard. Parliamentary oversight has been removed.
I feel ashamed of being German.
