“Whatever you do, don’t bring me back to life under a Republican administration.” -- Timothy Leary

This week will see #Westminster at its comically pompous best, full of transparent doublespeak.

Most Labour MPs want #Starmer to go, 'cos if he stays, about 350 of them will lose their seats in 2029. That's more than half of all MPs.

OTOH, they want him to stay for another 3 weeks, to take the blame for the massive election defeat on 7th May.

This will lead to some weird manoeuvres, as Labour MPs try to fatally wound their useless, mendacious leader ... but not kill him yet.

People hyperfixate on Trump as if the GOP weren't almost all pedophile theocratic freaks and rapist used car salesmen and lynch mob Klansmen and malignant narcissist zillionaires.

What pisses me off is these people are treated as normal by our political system. Democrats call them their friends.

We should have John Browned all these assholes a long, long time ago.

@vij “toxic career-first culture” aka capitalism.

"Democrats should have it torn down immediately upon taking office just as the Iraqis tore down Saddam’s statue in Baghdad. Symbolism matters. And leaving it up would be the worst symbol of all —a disgusting reminder that an American president who cares nothing for the rule of law and behaves like a tinpot dictator of a banana republic can get away with it."

The Ballroom Is Him - Digby's Hullabaloo

Trump's temple/ballroom obsession says everything about him. And it's not good: With so many lives at risk in the Middle East in recent weeks, it seemed frivolous if not immoral to care whether the White House got a new ballroom. It just did not seem to matter much, then, now or ever. And yet the president of the United States, who…

"If we stopped surveillance advertising, most modern internet companies would collapse"

Good! They're laying off humans at a record pace in order to juice their stock prices and further facilitate this bubble. Take 'em all out.

@peter_sch @fishidwardrobe @n_dimension @OccuWorld Israel makes that case better than anyone else could. Just listen to any of their politicians, even their liberal opposition, or read an opinion poll of Israelis.

So, again, these age verification laws aren't about children.

They aren't about protecting children.

They aren't about children on social media.

They are about surveillance, control, and abuse.

If we wanted to make social media safer for children, we would pass legislation that actually addressed the way commercial social media is harmful to everyone: limiting notification frequency, mandating interop and data export-ability, preventing surveillance driven advertising models, mandating algorithmic transparency, and enforcing anti-trust against companies like Meta who buy up all their competitors and unify them.
