I had a thought about growing 100% of my own food.
"Diet should be based on climate and land first, then optimized for labor, then adjusted for preference."
I know what my culture recommends I grow.
I know what my preferences are.
But neither of those things mean I can grow those things and meet all of my food needs from my specific land and climate.
I love wheat, but I might need to grow flour corn.
I love bush beans but I might need to grow fava beans.
Same here. We keep a rooster for every fifteen hens or so. I like the setup. We use those electric netted fences but we don't have a mobile coop for them. So they stay close to the barn. We hope to solve that problem soon.

To be fair, it isn't farms that are folding. It is crop specialized corporations with a single product and a single market that are failing.
Those folks on the tractor growing corn on a thousand acres aren't farmers, they are crop specialists.
If they fail and small local farms support more of the food system we will just get fewer poisons on our food.
My 3 year old enjoys counting even and odd numbers, can do basic multiplication, can add and subtract, and has three native languages.
Then there's me. I learned enough about other languages to be able to understand the basics but I can't speak anything other than English, and I can't look at a number without taking part in a panic attack.
My oldest son is 100% more creative than me and can talk to anyone. I am socially incapable. 😂
