...in which Amazon tell us that outages were caused by unreviewed AI code...

oh yeah somebody said something about there being no doubt about productivity gains because 'they see them everyday'?

Well ok I'll accept your still anecdotal evidence but I would like to debit hours from those x1 engineers productivity gains and raise a credit for hours lost by every person affected by these outages. #AI

I keep hearing “we need a left version of Joe Rogan’s podcast.”

As a human rights lawyer I bring the receipts to debunk disinformation and advance the fight for absolute justice. Click to read Let's Address This with Qasim Rashid, by Qasim Rashid, Esq., a Substack publication with hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

With Musk serving as a de facto cabinet member, it's reasonable to assume that X/Twitter will freely provide federal agencies with the sort of data that would normally require a warrant.

It's equally safe to assume that far right agency heads will use that data to pursue administration goals, like immigrant deportation, abortion prosecution, protest suppression, etc.

If you know anyone who insists on using Twitter, please urge them to be excruciatingly careful about what they post there from now on. Information and data that may have seemed innocuous a year ago are now a threat vector, and the person posting them may not always be the person most at risk.

I have said this before, but it's worth repeating: in times of crisis it is easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of outrages that call for your attention. Pick your issue. Pick the corner of the world that you are going to defend and fight for that. If you try to fight everything all the time, you will burn out real fast.

This thread is getting a lot of attention and a lot of responses. I thought it would be useful to summarize recommendations so you don't have to trawl through all of the threads off the original post.

Below are the various providers that received multiple positive responses in the threads. I have not personally used any of these services, so your mileage may vary. I have attempted to indicate where the ownership of each company is situated, for those who care about jurisdiction.

Glauca Digital (UK)
Joker.com (DE)

Email:
Proton Mail (CH) - I mentioned this in the original post and got several positive comments. However there were also several commenters who were concerned about this company's moves into Cryptocurrency and AI.
Tuta, formerly Tutanote (DE) - mentioned several times as an alternative to Proton Mail

I run an rpg on Wednesdays. Yesterday, the consensus was, “I want to stab all the things.” They’re in the Fae realms, so a lesser Hunt came galloping into their night.
They fought valiantly and hit many foes. Then one thing led to another. Juggling heads and disco lighting started happening to my hapless Fae, one of whom died laughing. When the Hunt leader rode up dramatically to demand the return of the Hunt’s prey, the bard challenged him to a dance-off.
I love my group.
