Ecosocialist from Scotland. I write blogs about things I read, watch or play, because writing is fun.

My cat is much cooler than me and occasionally I will post a picture.

This is the correct outcome, but it’s worth reiterating that the entire premise of this lawsuit is not just absurd, but obscene. “You are not allowed to stop being my customer” is the application of the totalitarian impulse to business.

the people united shall never be defeated

a documentary about a local community standing up against a hostile immigration raid carried out against their neighbours that also showcases some of Glasgow’s long history of grassroots resistance against state oppression. Fantastic film, I’m so glad it was made, I cried and cried and I have never loved the city I live in more than I do now

@inquiline it's exhausting, isn't it.
every day i (nobody) get up and try to do an ok job in spite of everything decaying and collapsing around me; every day very powerful people get up and manufacture an epic clusterfuck

Somebody doesn't care about Google or Sora or tech bros and would like to give you a tiny dose of toe beans that he hopes will make you feel better if you're having a stressful day.

Did I miss the memo that it's now acceptable to just listen to music, radio, movies whatever without headphones on the train? Asking for a confused millennial.

I don't know how to talk about this other than to say it's fucking revolting censorship. So many things wrong with this situation I don't even know where to start. Using "AI" to classify books for censorship. The idea that teens cannot handle, and need to be protected from, discussion of racism or misogyny. Terry Pratchett books being dangerous (actually I think he might be sort of pleased by that thought). Someone I went to uni with is an author on this list; I've read the book and the only reason to think a teen shouldn't read it is if you're a racist.

This ban is a move in support of racism and misogyny, it's utterly indefensible and I'm fucking fuming that they put an honest and caring librarian out of work over it.

School book banning escalates in the UK as Greater Manchester secondary school censors scores of books - Index on Censorship

A school librarian faced a disciplinary hearing and scores of books were removed from her school library after she stocked Laura Bates’ Men Who Hate Women

@http_error_418 100% This is so indicative of a worldview that thinks that racism, transphobia etc aren't the problem, but people _noticing_ these things is.

@passenger @shantara @Pepijn hmm, as a European, in most of the circles I move in it's recognised this is a complex problem. Caused by industrial decline, the loss of state capacity through neoliberalism, and a failure to neutralise right-wing narratives for decades.

I associate the "it was Russia" with a specific strand of liberals you also see in the US.

A bigger issue is that many left parties have concluded they cannot change opinion anymore, so have to ride the ride of nativism instead.
