Apple is giving users of old iPhones and iPads a false sense of security.
This week, Apple released security updates for iOS and iPadOS versions 15 and 16. The updates address a few old vulnerabilities leveraged by the Coruna exploit kit, which made headlines last week.
Meanwhile, Apple is knowingly leaving hundreds of security flaws unpatchedāincluding ones exploited in other real-world attacks from various threat actors.*
Why does Apple only patch a handful of vulnerabilities that get news coverage, while ignoring others that are equally dangerous and just as likely to impact users? Does Apple care more about optics than protecting its customers? š¤
Make sure you (and your loved ones, or people for whom you do tech support) are using Apple devices that are new enough to get the latest operating systems (e.g. iOS or iPadOS version 26), and make sure they are actually installing the latest updates.
Please share this post with your friends, relatives, and colleagues to help raise awareness. š
*To be clear, this statement is not hyperbole. The 170+ CVEs that I showcase in this meme represent only those that Apple has patched in iOS 26.x but hasnāt patched in iOS 15 or 16. This list doesnāt include vulnerabilities patched in iOS 17 or 18 that never got fixed for iOS 15 or 16.
