On that topic, please consider signing this change.org petition. I really don't want Google to start preventing installation of apps from outside the Play Store. The freedom I have to install software on my handheld computer is part of why I'm not in Apple's ecosystem.

I'm also concerned Google will start locking down the bootloader like Samsung has, though this petition doesn't address that.

I want these to succeed for a number of reasons. At the top of my mind right now is seeing GrapheneOS become a first-class citizen on a major manufacturer's platform, and to signal to other manufacturers the appetite people have for strong security, privacy, and true digital sovereignty.

I know it's probably better practice to simply use a terminal (#skillissue ), but I have to say that VS Code (and its forks) have fantastic remoting capabilities when connecting over ssh, especially to UNIX-based systems.

It made the process of joining this Ubuntu server VM to my Active Directory domain sooo much easier.

NOTE: This is an isolated machine in a lab environment, not a production system.

Lol. Lmao.
Huge congrats to the folks behind the new CVE Foundation (https://www.thecvefoundation.org/) - amazing work to be able to announce this so quickly after the news about MITRE's funding expiring broke. I really look forward to see how the next phase of the CVE Program will unfold... I hope lots of private sector and government folks are having conversations about how they can support the Foundation going forward.
CVE Foundation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 16, 2025 CVE Foundation Launched to Secure the Future of the CVE Program [Bremerton, Washington] – The CVE Foundation has been formally established to ensure the long-term viability, stability, and independence of the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) Program, a

It's difficult to overstate how huge this is. CISA and the DoD rely on CVEs to say nothing of the hundreds of companies that also do.

Did Congress fail to fund? Did DOGE's downsizing hit this?

What are some of your ways to determine whether someone is looking for a meaningful dialogue versus "just asking questions"?

I have heard a lot of takes from even malware analysts that most Windows users do not need third-party antivirus solutions for their own PCs and that Windows Defender is sufficient these days.
I think even @JohnHammond said as much in one of his YouTube videos. (John, call me out if I'm wrong!)

What do you guys think?

I wonder what the people who write "u" instead of "you" do with all the time they've saved.

I'm planning to (eventually) do some network overkill on my small home LAN. Specifically, I'm planning to offload my #dns and #dhcp to my Protectli Vault.

I have a number of options available for both, but I'm leaning towards BIND9 for DNS and either Kea DHCP or ISC DHCP server. Yes, I know the latter is deprecated. What would push me towards Kea would be DDNS that's not too insane to set up.

Thoughts?
