Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are invasive in North America, and spread diseases faster than the native varieties. Now scientists have released sterile male Aedes aegypti in Southern California, reducing Aedes aegypti populations by 44-82% in target areas. This environmentally-friendly approach could help combat mosquito-borne diseases, never mind reducing the number of bitey bugs. LA Times https://archive.md/EjQuT

📣 The rushed integration of AI into everything is a major threat to privacy, as we've been saying.

Microsoft Recall is a great (not great!) example of exactly why--it screenshots everything on your desktop, to give AI the data to tell you...what you were doing on desktop.

So, Signal took steps to protect you and everyone using Signal on Windows 11 from Recall's hunger for (Signal) data.

Read more about how we navigated, and why we need to ecosystem to a lot more 👇

By Default, Signal Doesn't Recall

Signal Desktop now includes support for a new “Screen security” setting that is designed to help prevent your own computer from capturing screenshots of your Signal chats on Windows. This setting is automatically enabled by default in Signal Desktop on Windows 11. If you’re wondering why we’re on...

I spent more time outside today than normal. Because I am wearing an N95 mask, in the house, until we are sure that my husband didn't pick up anything a mask can protect me from at the hospital.
I really would like it if only one of us is sick at a time. We will see how the next couple of days go.
Today, was again better than the day before.
While Summer and I watched the sunset turn into a wildly red sky we talked.
I told her that the hospital workers told us how much they appreciated our attitudes towards them, because we thanked them, and worked with them to help us, instead of against. They said that they wished more patients, and families were like us. They think attitude is a factor in a positive outcome.
I hope they are right.
I wish more people were kind to service providers.
Summer says she tries to be nice all the time. I'm glad because it really does help.

Did you know that you can generate a 3D forest moss ball with a G'MIC script? There's absolutely no need, so it's really essential! 😅 Who knows?

G'MIC Adventures #3: (Pseudo)-Diffusion-Limited Aggregation

Today, I’d like to start a third episode of my G’MIC Adventures serie, with a quick exploration of Diffusion-Limited Aggregation: How to implement it as G’MIC scripts, and what cool things can be derived from it? Ok, so first, what is Diffusion-Limited Aggregation ? @Reptorian already implemented it inside G’MIC a few years ago, so that’s something you may be already familiar with. But for this episode, I’m gonna re-implement it from scratch, for educational purposes (and for fun, let’s not ki...
