A long day today.
After work and an early dinner, my partner and I went with a couple friends to the precinct caucuses tonight at a nearby neighborhood high school. This is where the party platform starts in our election system here in Minnesota.
The foyer of this high school is lined with flags from nations around the world. And along one wall is a huge banner reading “Justice Unity Respect”.
These should be universal words taught regardless of party affiliation.
We decided to hold a smaller neighborhood vigil rather than attend a larger one. About 10 of us remembering Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Also thinking of the countless direct and indirect victims.
Shared stories. Sang a few songs. Reaffirmed our convictions.
For Saint Paul folks in my area. This is very near my home and where ICE detained and brutalized 23-year-old Nasra Ahmed for two days before releasing her.
It’s going to be -5° F (-20° C), but community will come together again tonight in solidarity after this morning’s shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti.

Two years ago today, Jo, warrior princess, came into our lives. She ran up to me after I saw her trudging through snow just barely below her tummy in our front flowerbed on a day where the temperature was just 5° F (-15° C).
She was tiny. Very young. We think about 8-12 weeks old. No mama and no siblings nearby, in a neighborhood surrounded more by forest than city. No idea where she came from or how she got here. But she came inside and has been here ever since.

They're free. Get one or more from the non-profit project Whistledown. I spoke with a volunteer who says they've sent about 20,000 to Minneapolis in the last week. They have 11 3D printers working around the clock to print more.
