People also said descriptions are helpful
* if images are loading slowly or not at all for them
* for transcribing images of text
* if wanting to boost the toot (a lot of people here won't boost undescribed images)
* to see how other people describe a picture - several said they got better at image descriptions by seeing good ones
That last one made me especially happy. Image descriptions can feel daunting when you're new to them, but there's plenty around to learn from!
One thing that would be nice to see more exploration around is how to incorporate the growing fediverse with a resurgence of personal publishing, homebrew websites, blogs, journals and the like.
Rather than make this place more like Twitter or Facebook, what if we leaned into the slower pace and less distressing tone, and tried to make it more like the (old school) web—
Huh. I didn't realize this particular fact (from the Mastodon intro blog):
"Hashtags are a really important thing on Mastodon. In fact, they are the only part of the content of toots that is searchable. So if you want to be found by people who are looking for toots about photography it’s best to include #photography."
Good to know that *only* hashtags will show up in searches. Very different from the bird place. #introduction #twittermigration #mastodon
