I tend to use the term leading practices for those that are more generally applicable. Situational is certainly a useful framing.

@carnage4life That's about the gist of Radical Candor by Kim Scott. (Published in French as "En toute franchise".) You're not helping when you don't tell the truth because you want to be nice.

It feels unnatural for me, because my culture and upbringing push me to avoid conflict. But I try to keep at it.

Radical Candor: Feedback Coaching, Consulting And Training

Radical Candor—feedback that’s kind clear, specific, and sincere. Radical Candor feedback coaching and consulting is the antidote to toxic company cultures.

Then he talked about rockets. I don't know anything about rockets, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software & Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit I've ever heard anyone say, so when people say he's a genius I figure I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.

@dave I have a bias, but I have not seen much of this:

>> Gotta love tech journalists who describe Mastodon as “that impossible-to-use website.”

There were a few stories like that in early November maybe, but that’s not the impression I’ve gotten since from mainstream news orgs.

That seems like a bit of a strawman.

Tech Journalism Doesn’t Know What to Do With Mastodon

To everyone joining mastodon during this 4th wave, it’s important for you to understand that this is Social Networking and NOT Social Media (it's a good thing!)

What’s the difference?

This small article on the distinction might help you understand why this space feels different and full of hope: https://paper.wf/dariohudon/a-note-to-mastodon
