Crypto-centric decentralized platforms are right wing aligned (the jury's out about whether crypto-funded ones are too).
Major newspapers are aligning themselves around the right wing.
Whoever controls the narrative has the ability to obfuscate and overwrite the truth.
The Fediverse is more important for freedom than ever before.

1. This ban happened because successive US Presidents Trump and Biden disliked the speech that was taking place on TikTok. No other reason.
2. Maybe you don't use TikTok. If the US Government can do this to TikTok, it can *and will* do it to whatever thing it is you like. This is true *even if the TikTok ban never goes into effect*. The U.S. now has a loaded, functioning weapon against free speech, and the next person who gets to use it is Donald Trump

Turned off my BlueSky, Facebook, and Instagram in preparation for the hell that I’m sure will be breaking loose Monday.
I had a really intense emotional day yesterday and really struggled to stay calm. My partner asked me if I could remove something I posted from Facebook about the transphobic memes that get posted there, and I did, but part of me felt that wasn’t fair to me, since the main reason I post stuff like that isn’t for trans people it’s for the cis people following us who don’t understand.
Things resolved by the end of the night but I feel bad about it. Cis people didn’t see what I posted anyway, so I guess all I was doing was making people who do care upset.
I feel like there’s a lot of bad stuff we’re going to have to talk about in the next four years and I’m worried it’s going to break us if we can’t.
I guess we’ll see what’s coming.
