These critters usually run away quickly before I can get even remotely close. Here I got a view through the brush with my long lens. Love how the light illuminates the eye and shines through the ear.

Total Eclipse of the Sun

There will be a total solar eclipse across a great swath of North America next April.
I met with friends to camp in the middle of Wyoming to capture this photo using my long lens with special filtering film covering the objective. Look carefully at this color photo and you can see a couple solar prominences. I was amazed I was able capture the corona this well.
Seems like a good time to post a couple of photos of brittlebush (Encelia farinosa - daisy family). This is a characteristic species of the sage scrub communities. Very common across SoCal. It has quite a strong, herbaceous scent. Lakeview Mountains, today.
