Pics of the view from the balcony of my apartment. The situation grows heavier on my heart daily as the mind continues to grasp the extent of the destruction.
And also the realization that no concrete steps have been taken for reconstruction so far; we only hear speeches and hold Arab summits regarding it, but there is no actual movement. This is compounded by the occupation's obstruction of the entry of debris removal machinery
But Anyway, Hello Khan Yunis 🥰

Bloomberg had also published this article over a year ago:
"So far, Israeli air strikes have left more than 42 million tonnes of debris across the Strip, according to the UN. That’s enough rubble to fill a line of dump trucks stretching from New York to Singapore. [...]
The majority of the debris is destroyed housing, and its distribution across the Strip roughly mimics Gaza’s population density before the war."

I can't help but connect this article about butterflies losing their colors to the devastating sea of gray rubble in Gaza:
#Ceasefire is not the end.
Israeli violence (terrorism) continues in the West Bank, Southern Lebanon, and of course in #gaza -- in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza: at least 400,000 tons of rubble and who knows how many people's bodies will be found...
G'afternoon, folks. 🤎
My 13yo brother, Youssef, had a quick errand this morning to buy some bread.
He brought me some flowers on his way. He knows that I press/dry and document the flowers and keep them in my notebook.
Some of them are from our home in Rafah, some are from my first displacement location, others are from my second displacement location, and some are from here as well. 🌷🤎
2019 and 2020 were fucking wild. There were global protests. Americans were fighting with the National Guard in the streets. They were burning down police stations and chased the US president into a bunker. The government was just mailing checks to people. Millions of people suddenly weren’t going to work and didn’t have to pay rent or student loans. Everyone got a taste of how radically different life could be and how powerful we could be together.
And then Joe Biden said “actually let’s just reset to exactly the way things were before and not fundamentally change the system that brought us to this point” and people wonder why we ended up with fascism.
