Soft-spoken security old guy.
Multi-industry, always infosec, often IT/OT, sometimes physical/personal. I can find a policy, a pentest, or a bulletproof vest that suits your needs.

I mostly write like I prefer my coffee - dark, bitter, scalding.

Watching Fedi and the world react to the US president go absolutely unhinged in public, threatening war crimes as his cognitive grip disintegrates before our eyes, watching the horror and the outrage…there is something I want to tell you from Minneapolis.

And I’m not sure how, and I’m not sure if I can, but I want to try. People are always thanking us and calling us heroes and asking us for some kind of…something, anything we can offer in the face of the authoritarian march, and well, here it is, here is something, if I can figure out how to say it.

@ewhac Code is not an asset; code is a liability. Being able to spew out code faster means that you gain liabilities at an increased rate.

I recently heard someone refer to the process of writing code as "enbugging".

It seems some bastard is building an app that scrapes your Mastodon feed and uses an LLM to summarise posts every hour, and I feel I could do that for free and without the massive resource costs and privacy violations? The US government is doing something hateful and stupid, science is awesome, the UK government is doing something hateful and stupid, trans people are hot, people are making crafts, the catgirls are meowing at each other, Ben is storing Creme Eggs in a medically inadvisable way and you should use Linux. Post hourly. You're welcome.

I know you've always been curios. How does the #curl code base compare to a few great literary works of art when it comes to number of words?

That's a Level 18 incident, right there.

As in "How old must the whisky be?"

@hacks4pancakes I am going to use this as a template, too, for how management acts when they say "We take #infosec and #privacy seriously", and then shunt proposed meetings wayyy into the hazy future. With their underlings, 2-3 levels down and no mandates.

(One weird difference though: they still *pay* me. Go figure.)

@jerry Knowing Corporate only gets you that far, at some point you must know the Individuals.

Risk perception and appetite is a deeply personal trait.
