Support the North #Portland (#PDX) Drop-In Center

*This petition is for current residents, business owners, and workers of #StJohns*

This is a counter petition to the one currently circulating in the St. Johns community seeking to close the Drop-In Center, established to provide services to the #houseless community.

We feel this is a critical resource for our houseless community members. We strongly feel that the problems being projected in local media can best be served by the community through education, de-escalation training, a more robust mutual aid network, and an increase of community involvement with the houseless community.

The Drop-In Center primarily provides services for our houseless community members in St. Johns who would not otherwise have access to these services. Services do not require a referral and include:

Case management from peer providers who can connect clients with longer-term services. That could include helping clients obtain necessary documents for #housing, #healthcare, providing referrals to community partners and behavioral #health support services, connecting clients with government benefits, and more.
#Housing navigation assistance, including identifying and eliminating barriers to housing, assistance with applications and fees, and other support services.
#Hygiene services, including laundry and showers, with access to travel-size toiletries as available.
Limited #meals offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, in addition to pantry items and hot and cold beverages.
Mailing address services. People will be able to sign up to have mail delivered to the day center; not having a stable mailing address can be a key barrier to people seeking housing.

The problems attributed to the Center in local media would be greatly exacerbated if it was closed. We understand this is not the solution to #houselessness, which would be a housing first policy, but a lifeline for those who have nowhere else to turn.

No more #Illegal2BHomeless in #AmeriKKKa #Homeless people have rights too!!! #Homeless

Save Mohammed's family from Genocide

Hello everyone My name is Mohammed, a Palestinian from northern Gaza, 29 years old. I studied Business Administration at Al-Quds Open University in Gaza, and before the war, my life was full of hope and work for my family and my future aspirations. But everything vanished in an instant, replaced by fear and destruction. Since the beginning of the war on Gaza, my family and I have been displaced from our home in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip, from the very first day until today. Our house was destroyed, and with the rubble went the most beautiful memories with my family and friends. Every moment of joy and laughter we shared there has become a painful memory amid the ruins. In the recent war, we became homeless, moving through rubble and dust, searching for any safe corner that could protect us from the death that chases us everywhere. My family, twenty women and children, sleep in a single cramped tent. Yet, despite all this, I have not lost hope. Every donation can be a ray of light that brightens our lives amid this darkness. Every act of help revives the hearts of our little children and gives us the strength to carry on. Help us… my heart is heavy with sorrow, and my days are dark, but through your generosity, we can find a glimmer of hope among the rubble. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who reaches out to help save what remains of our lives

#MAGA #Wilson obeying his master #Trump goes after people and is okay with putting people in concentration camps or jail. If you don't remember, he almost sold out Portland for less than $400M federal funding.

City of Portland Begins Enforcement of ‘Public Camping’ Rules This Weekend

Note: This story has been updated to include comments from Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vazquez. This weekend, the city of Portland is resuming enforcement of its local laws governing when, where, and how homeless Portlanders can live in public spaces. Mayor Keith Wilson announced that enforcement would begin November 1, saying he wants people found in violation to be referred to resources like shelters or substance use programs. That’s the same day the federal...

It happened again. This is the 4th time this month for this individual. Sweeps are unconstitutional, immoral and unacceptable. St. Johns, let’s step up and end these human rights violations within our community
