One trick pony. Yakshaver. Legacymancer. Herder of cats. Sometimes barking up the wrong tree.

Social reading as @stitzl

@deech One more level of abstraction will fix it.
AI is accelerating the process but we have to face the fact that the de-skilling of tech workers has been going on for a long time due to
* giant frameworks
* massive amounts of indirection in APIs
* and the sheer amount of scaffolding required to bootstrap even simple projects
@lizardbill Yeah, I used to create thousands of lines per day with a code generator as well, two decades ago, and without being a "hotshot". However, that code generator was validated and thus provided consistent results with every run. Then our tooling got better to the point where that kind of code is generated during builds, so I do not need to maintain all that boilerplate which constantly gets in my way.
@cstross Neither do I, but the corresponding memes on the internet were inescapable those days.

@cstross Sorry, this guy right here: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/bear-grylls-better-drink-my-own-piss/photos

I thought you might know him, as he's your compatriot and was quite a TV-personality a decade or two ago.

@jasongorman Well, I know when it's not a good time: In a "Quality Assurance Phase" directly before the release of a complex product with >100k LoC after developing for several years. 😬

True story, though it was at some point in the noughties.

@carnage4life Who'd want their advice from a fascist Grima Wormtongue?
I just barely managed to gain the upper hand in this cerebral chess match against GPT-5's PhD-level reasoning.
