I’m an electronics/software engineer and consultant, mostly working in biometrics and security, previously in satellite/wireless/RF communications. Very interested in climate, green tech, sustainability etc. I also love speciality coffee, photography and music!
@andyjennings Of course it will be a bigger and bigger problem that 20% of supply is locked up so there will be a lot of re-allocation. Hopefully this kick starts a push for things like more rail freight and more electrification though.
@andyjennings The media loves a good sensational story, truth be damned... Then that led to panic buying which led the the shortage which led to more sensational stories and the cycle continues…

@treleanor I feel like by now we have to assume that it being bad is the point. Just like the atrocious service Centrelink provides that means plenty of people who are entitled to payments give up before getting them.

It has to be plausible deniability, to try and save money by refusing people despite them having legitimate needs and them being legally entitled to the payments. There can be no other reason not to have human review - post-Robodebt (and after plenty of other examples both here and overseas, such as the Horizon scandal), nobody in Government can even pretend to believe algorithms are infallible anymore.

@Qldaah What an embarrassment. We’re living in a nanny state, honestly…
@RaymondPierreL3 It’s incredible, basically none of the inflation over the last five years has been anything interest rate rises can improve, and if anything it’s just made things a lot worse - yet that’s all the RBA can think of doing… The fact that it’s the only thing they have direct control of is no excuse for setting policy that makes things worse - they should be working with Government to try and implement actually effective measures instead!
@theprivacydad That’s what I was hearing from various teenage children of my cousins in Sydney back at Christmas (older cousins’ kids are around that age range). Stuff like “oh she was really sad that she lost her old account” from the parents. They didn’t care that their kids all had new accounts that pretend to be older, both the kids and parents were openly saying that’s what was happening!
@NewtonMark @Heliograph The “surprise” is a bit ridiculous. The US attacked Iran from those countries. Why wouldn’t Iran be bombing them?

@chad @harald It was a supported distribution channel that just today I find out they seem to have randomly abandoned with zero warning or notice, while they’ve been releasing updates for critical vulnerabilities elsewhere.

Thousands of their customers will be relying on this like we were, I’m really quite shocked at Ubiquiti here!

@chad Hmm, weird, mine uses the Debian repo and for some reason that's still at 10.0.162... Anyway, just shut it down, I don't actually need it running unless my APs lose power and restart, but the UPS should take care of that.

Steady the ship.

My @smh cartoon.
