@andyjennings depending on how much of a valid reason a religious fundamentalist needs to justify extreme acts of violence, these are not mutually exclusive positions (Kohlers and yours). justify is doing a lot of work in that sentence. For the violent extremist, their violence is always justified. For those looking on they are a murderous nutjob that cares little for life.
For what it’s worth I do not consider for a moment that any of this stuff is about people practicing a religion. These people don’t use religion to live and let live, they use it to practice domination and manipulation. So it’s not even religious extremism, it’s just extremely violent men, doing what they have always done.
