An interview about Redefining Ambient Music for a Globalized World.

"Did the music itself change, or did our collective nervous system simply demand a shelter from an increasingly overwhelming world?"

Guest editor Kathryn Huether invites essays (~1200 words) that explore the effects, the workings, and the historical backgrounds of this worrying and now almost expected use of non-human listening to simply generate more hate, aggression and all forms of oppression:

– deepfake audio, synthetic voices, and AI-generated propaganda

– creative resistance to hate and misrecognition caused by algorithms

– how non-human listening effectively reproducers and normalizes colonial and nationalist ideas

HATE BY AI?

How are artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems increasingly used to listen to, moderate, and sometimes amplify hate—through speech, sound, or silence?

This new Call for Proposals of SOUNDING OUT! listens to how LLMs now decide which voices are heard, which are silenced, and which are misunderstood.

Sounding Out!

Do you ever listen to noise music, maybe even on the regular?

I did contribute to this survey a few days ago; just listening to the three music examples and then responding to the questions really did make me think again about this music genre.

So:

If you've got 15 minutes and you're into noise music, why not give it a listen and see what you think?

Your responses will definitely add to the quality of this research project!

Dziękuję! Kiitos!! Obrigado!!!

Understanding Compositions of Noise music within a Spatial Framework

Hello and welcome. Thank you for participating in this survey! Your responses will help gather important data for my master’s thesis in musicology at the University of Copenhagen. My research explores alternative methods of perceiving artistic compositions of Noise. Before You Begin: The survey consists of three sections, at the beginning of each section you will be asked to listen to a short composition of Noise music composed specifically for the purpose of this research - for engaging in a Spatial Mode of Listening. After you’ve finished listening to a composition, you will be asked to answer 10 questions about your listening experience, before moving on to the next section. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Again; thank you indeed for participating! Your time and responses are greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Adrian B. Brendstrup
