GPT-5 is about to hit. Claiming large reductions in "hallucinations." Yet another counter-argument seemingly dissolving.
To be clear, not celebrating this nor the future it heralds. More lamenting the relative fecklesness of our communal resistance, which needed to far precede the advent of the LLM and center more on the political economy of tech than any feature-level critiques </rant>
I know I'm old, but I believe this New Yorker cartoon from the Internet's early days really did contain within it most of the issues that were to emerge from the net over the last 30 years.
Reading Varoufakis' "Talking to my daughter about the economy" from 2013. Fascinating how it's aged. The sting of 2008 is fresh yet people seem now to have forgotten. The last half talks of resisting the threats of AI and automation with a hope I think it is hard to muster now. Which I expect he feels too given his more recent writing on Technofeudalism.
