The submission process at the Journal of Open Source Education was so easy a student in my group remarked that "It seems almost like cheating" compared to "spending hours and hours" submitting papers to other journals.

Journal submission doesn't have to be painful. Publication doesn't have to be expensive. There are journals showing us the way. Thanks @joss!

You'll notice that the last data point in these graphs is from May. It is currently May. If you're an ecologist you understand that that is really fast. The reason we can do this so quickly is that we release our data in near real-time using an automated system for QA/QC, integrated data from sensors, and arching everything to Zenodo.

This interactive website called Ancient Earth made by Ian Webster for The Dinosaur Database in 2018 is wild. It has a 3D view of Earth you can manipulate - you can grab the Earth and move it in any direction, zoom, etc.

You enter a location in the search field, it marks it with a 📍 and then you can change the date to see what fossils or dinosaurs were in an area (your area!) through all different periods of history.

One of my favorite parts of running @thecarpentries instructor teaching demos is when someone chooses a lesson that uses the Portal dataset and they introduce the experiment.

I have to refrain from shouting "I collected some of that data! Let me show you photos of kangaroo rats!" :)
