I've always heard the phrase "use it or lose it," but it always came across as a word of warning, a cautionary thing. Nowadays, it feels like a threat, and one I'm taking seriously. I'll address the changes I've made to fix things in another video, but for now, here's me, refusing to go gently into that dark night.

@RenewedRebecca I’ll take a look at this page and see if it helps. I tried running rEFInd but I’m not sure if it’s installing or doing anything, which means I’m probably not doing it right.
I just don't understand why this particular version of Arch is bootable from USB. I've tried, Mint, Ubuntu, vanilla Debian, and a few others. This MacBook just stubbornly refuses to accept anything else. It will not see the drives! And to get as far as actually installing the OS only to end up with a hard disk that won't boot because the firmware doesn't see it is frustrating as hell.
Maybe someone in the #retrocomputing or #linux community can help me?
I have a MacBook from 2008 that I tried putting Arch Linux on. It booted from the USB into a live environment and ran the default archinstall settings. Everything went fine, but after rebooting the disk I installed to doesn't come up when I hold down option.
I've tried manual install, copying files directly, etc, etc. The MacBook just does not see the drive.
Further, I can't get any other live USB environment to boot. WTF?
@Gruber_Music I love the modulations (I think that’s the right word for it) that happen around the 35 second mark. It just goes off in a different direction and then comes right back for the turn around.
So, next step is either drawing a bunch of my own assets to fill the map (furniture, dungeon ephemera, other items to add more rpg elements) or finding a good, royalty free asset pack to import and edit so they'll work with what I've got here. But the point is, I'm having fun!
I followed a tutorial on using GIMP to make a #ttrpg map. The example in the video was a cavern, but I wanted to make an indoor setting, so I altered it and came up with this. What's cool is how I can change settings just by adding/removing layers with different textures.
Why use GIMP? Well, I know Dungeon Scrawl exists, but I'm currently using a 2009 Macbook running Linux (don't ask how I ended up here) and DS just refuses to load in Firefox. And yet, GIMP runs very well on this elder Mac.
