These mitsubishi electric AC units update the energy used every 0.1 kWh but don't give an instant power figure.

I added a new sensor for estimated power by taking the difference between current energy and last reported then dividing by the elapsed time. There's some safe guards to keep the values reasonable.

Early signs point to yes.
I'm hoping this will reduce some of the short cycling behaviour that I think is due to air stratification and these units are located on the ceiling.

Today's aircon adventures:

1. Switched the dining room cassette to "normal" airflow, which is more downwards. For some reason "up", not "normal", is the default.

2. Made a little remote temp sensor with an ESP32 and a Temp+RH module for the dining room. I've got this configured on the indoor unit's ESP32 adapter. I'm now testing to see how it behaves.

TIL you can simulate esphome LVGL displays

Blind update:

- Tested on a >2m roller blind and it works
- I've figured out how to get the battery % into home assistant with a custom zigbee "quirk"

Since blogging is dead I thought it was the perfect time to blog.

I've been slowing making my personal site a blog and back filling posts like this one https://sjtrny.com/posts/2026-05-26-heat-pump-hot-water-wi-fi-adapter/

Heat Pump Hot Water Wi-Fi Adapter - Stephen Tierney

I replaced the proprietary Wi-Fi module in my heat pump hot water system with a local ESPHome adapter built using a Waveshare ESP32-S3-RS485-CAN module.
