quick portrait attempt in my a5 sketchbook. Both happy and not happy with how this one worked out. The mouth was in the wrong spot and I didn't catch it early enough. Either way, this took about an hour and a half and it was great practice

Surprised at my progress through my white gesso. To be fair I bought it about 10 months ago, but for a long time I thought I'd never shift it

my learning to knit evening project is coming on too. About a third of the way through the ribbing for a hat. It's a little wonky but determined to not let perfect be the enemy of good

More progress - I think i'll leave this to dry now and then start building on it in a new layer. But pleased with how quickly I got through this initial block-in while wet. Usually takes me a lot longer #wip #oilpainting
Anyway, here's what I've been working on. Trying to get more used to alla prima style painting, as mostly up until this point I've worked in layers and patches and waited for it all to dry. #wip #oilpainting

decided i'd include some writing in the underpainting of my next painting, it's run a bit with the clear gesso. Wasn't quite what I had in mind but i'm just going with it - fun to have a discovery, and it looks visually pretty neat too

it's been a good day for painting

This is where I'm up to now after a session. It needs to dry a bit before I do too much more, the eyes still need work but I think I've improved it...

I think this painting is about done...I'll leave it to the side to dry and I'll keep an eye on it and see if anything else jumps out at me to be changed.

Little sketchbook page from a couple of weeks ago, from a day in Leeds. I've discovered water-based markers and their powers of not bleeding through my sketchbook ✨

tried to figure out how to fix it in procreate. I think the root of her nose needs shifting left a bit to stop the part her eye is on from being overexposed, and then shifting the pupil too.

maybe. still figuring out faces and paint combined. it might need her left eye to move over too?
