I’ve had this piece in mind for months now and I’m very excited to set it out into the world.

I’m not reviewing the whole iOS update. I am highlighting some features that I think have gotten passed over in those bigger reviews, though.

My biggest overlooked feature this year? Apple created a solution for carsickness.

Taking a look at some of the features that I think have flown under reviewers' radars

I definitely don’t want to sound flippant about the danger of hiking off-trail or underprepared. We had a lot of extra food and fluids and layers and batteries. We just didn’t quite have the right equipment, and that made a big difference. The off-trail part of the hike was also very busy. There was no part of it where we were alone. If it were deserted, we would have probably decided against continuing at some point. Thankfully that was not the case.

We did a hike up Grand Teton last week, and despite our extensive preparation, there was still clearly a lot we flatlanders had to learn about hiking up mountains. If we’d known how hard it was going to be, I’m not sure we would have done it. But I’m glad we did anyway. Sometimes it’s better to not quite know what you’re in for. https://open.substack.com/pub/sizemo/p/leaping-without-looking?r=8cyq6&utm_medium=ios

TREES TREES TREES

Fresh off a visit to [redacted] National Park, I’ve got trees on the brain. I have two shots from the archives and one shot from this week to discuss today!

So I took photos while the DEA was posted up outside my house last week and that gave me my photo theme for this week! Full story is also in the newsletter. https://open.substack.com/pub/sizemo/p/photo-friday-trouble?r=8cyq6&utm_medium=ios

Nerds love talking about opportunity costs. I was forced to confront the costs of waking up early for some recovery miles this weekend and I got me thinking about the things I give up for running in the general sense as well. https://open.substack.com/pub/sizemo/p/sorry-i-cant-i-have-to-run?r=8cyq6&utm_medium=ios

This week’s assignment was “overcast” because that’s the weather I was working with this week. I took a couple of shots, but none of them felt particularly interesting, so I looked back at some other overcast examples I had from the last few years.

Clouds can be such difficult elements to get right in photos because of the way they interact with, diffuse, and reflect light. I find them challenging to capture well.
