I always learn something when @grigs writes a post, but my jaw hit the ground when he said that you shouldn't use incognito mode for cookie testing, because it blocks third-party cookies! #TIL https://cloudfour.com/thinks/cookie-consent-management-in-2026-part-2-technical-tips/
Cookie Consent Management in 2026, Part 2: Technical Tips

Testing cookies consent compliance proved more difficult than I expected. Here are some tips and tricks I learned while conducting a cookie compliance audit.

@derickr @Crell @ramsey Adam Rutherford is great, I read his excellent book How to Argue With a Racist.

He talks about the ancestry and the genetic isopoint - the date that anyone with living relatives today is related to everyone.

For people with European ancestry that’s supposed to be around 1000 A.D. So we are all probably all related to Welsh royalty!

(I am actually 1/4 Welsh too)

Had a great time at the CamCreatives Neville Brody talk this evening, hosted by the incomparable @billt

Lots of talk about design, the importance of young people creating things and breaking the rules, and how technology changes design (not always for the better).

A stimulating evening among friends. #design #cambridge #creativity

@coenjacobs it is open source and businesses are free to do that.

Let’s hope there is more of that sort of thing in the future. There are a lot of great people working in the WordPress industry :)

@coenjacobs that’s a good post. I think it’s important to voice your concerns. I agree there isn’t really a solution to the WordPress problem. I think it’s good to see other big players like WP Engine supporting important parts of open source (WP Packagist). It is sad to see hosting companies wouldn’t back the FAIR project publicly.
I've been contemplating to write this post for months. The reason I haven't is the exact thing I want to write about. And that's just silly. So here goes: Fear of voicing the unpopular opinion within the WordPress ecosystem https://coenjacobs.com/blog/fear-voicing-unpopular-opinion-within-wordpress-ecosystem/

How Can Governments Pay Open Source Maintainers?

When I worked for the UK Government I was once asked if we could find a way to pay for all the Open Source Software we were using. It is a surprisingly hard problem and I want to talk about some of the issues we faced. The UK Government publishes a lot of Open Source code - nearly everything developed in-house by the state is available under an OSI Approved licence. The UK is generally pretty…
