The content of lammpstutorials.github.io has just been published in my favorite journal, the Living Journal of Computational Molecular Science (LiveCoMS).

LiveCoMS is a diamond open access journal (free to read and free to publish) that allows articles to evolve over time with updated versions. This was the ideal choice for these LAMMPS tutorials, which have been constantly growing and improving since their creation about 5 years ago.

By combining high-resolution electrostatic mapping with molecular dynamics simulations, we investigated the behavior of these surface-trapped ionic charges. We found that they spread across the surface with remarkable mobility. Their two-dimensional diffusion exceeds that of ions in bulk water, with the limiting factor being the friction between the ionic solvation shell and the solid.

When a water droplet slides across a hydrophobic surface, it leaves behind electric charges. But what becomes of these charges once they’re trapped at the surface?

What if adding particles to water made it flow better?

It sounds counterintuitive, we usually expect suspensions to get thicker as we add particles. But with graphene, the opposite can happen.

In our latest study, we show that suspensions of atomically thin graphene sheets can exhibit negative intrinsic viscosity, meaning they flow more easily than pure water at certain concentrations and shear rates.
