On July 23, Commodore introduced its Amiga 1000 computer. It featured pre-emptive multitasking, high-color graphics, stereo sound, and a slick graphical user interface. What year was it? 1985. Yes, 40 years ago. This computer was a decade ahead of its time. #retrocomputing #commodore #amiga https://dfarq.homeip.net/amiga-1000-ten-years-ahead-of-its-time/
50 years ago, on July 22, 1975, MITS licensed Altair Basic from Microsoft, leading to the first Microsoft product coming to market. It sold $16K worth in the first year. #retrocomputing https://dfarq.homeip.net/the-first-microsoft-product/
23 years ago, on July 21, 2002, MCI Worldcom went bankrupt. Although it's been eclipsed since, at the time it was the largest corporate bankruptcy in history and the corruption that led to it quickly became a scandal. It was a stunning fall for a company that was supposed to rival companies like AT&T and Verizon. https://dfarq.homeip.net/the-mci-worldcom-merger-bankruptcy-and-scandal/
Missed headline opportunity: Missouri Man steals ATM a second time in three months. #stl #missouri
This IBM PS/1 languished in my basement far too long. This week I started putting it back together. The CD-ROM drive came out of another IBM, probably an Aptiva, and the 360K floppy drive probably came out of a 5155 portable or a PCjr. #RetroComputing
Did you have a #Commodore 64 when you were younger? This is where the money for it went. Financing Irving Gould's art collection.
The large store at 3901 Lemay Ferry in #stl county that was a Venture for about 25 years and Kmart another 20, is getting demolished. It was built in 1960 as a GEM members-only department store.
I'm seeing pictures of people putting translucent keys and LEDs in retro computer keyboards today. And here I am putting 1987-style keycaps and disabling the LEDs on a modern keyboard.
I think Holly would be interested in being friends.
So here's Sega distributing a Nintendo game ported by Coleco to an Atari console. Could we have figured out how to get one more console maker involved in this #retrogaming deal?
