December's historical wildlife map is of the (harbour/grey) #seal! According to my research, seals were widespread around Britain and Ireland 250-500 years ago! πβπ§ββοΈβ
Interestingly, seals started to decline after the end of the #EarlyModern period due to increased hunting. Around 1900 they had become so rare that they had to be legally protected. They have recovered pretty well since, and it's now pupping season, so look out for them if you walk on the coast this winter! πβπ #histodons #mammals

I've added some new notebooks to the updated #Trove unpublished (aka diaries, letters, archives) section of the #GLAMWorkbench. They all relate to finding, using, & analysing the NLA's digitised manuscript finding aids (which are somewhat submerged beneath other content).
One notebook, finds the finding aids, another one gathers some summary information about all 2,337 finding aids, and a third helps you reconstruct the hierarchy from the HTML of a single finding aid & saves the content as JSON.
There's also a couple of new datasets β the list of finding aid urls, and the summary data from all of them.
