Maker of socks and words, but rarely sense. Sometimes fictional, always tired. Captioner by day, insomniac by night. Cat mom. Chaotic good. She/her.

B failed two hearing tests in the NICU and a third one after he came home. They said he had permanent, moderate-severe hearing loss in both ears. We've spent the last couple of months trying to figure out how to teach him to speak and just generally preparing for raising a HoH child.

We went back today for a follow-up, and he has completely normal hearing. It was the fluid backing up into his ears from reflux that was causing the loss. I quit eating tomato sauce and now he can hear. 😂

My boss is giving me an extra 4wks off to make up for some of the time we lost while B was in the hospital. I was not expecting that, but this is why we ask anyway even when we think the answer will be no.
The doctor is starting to talk about when B's NG tube might be able to come out, now that he's eating pretty consistently. 😁 Then we'll work on getting him off oxygen, but he can go home with oxygen if necessary. We're getting there.
Being forced to give your drive-through order to AI is a new level of hell.
It's after midnight, so we are now on day 28 of B's NICU stay. I'm so tired. I'd much rather be "I was up all night with the baby" tired instead of this.
He knew what to do the second the bottle got in his mouth. No breathing issues. He just fell asleep pretty fast. So it's really just the endurance he needs to work on.
He took 7mL, which is apparently a lot for a first attempt. Best Mother's Day present ever.

The nurse said B is totally ready to try to eat and could try a bottle as early as tomorrow (unless the doctor wants to wait for the speech therapist to be there for the first one)

Light at the end of the tunnel.

We have lobotomies at home. #NoContextForYou

It is the milk fortifier, but it's not something he can adjust to. Which is kind of what I thought in the first place because he started acting sick when they started adding that. They're putting him back on TPN for a couple of days and then adding a different formula to the milk instead.

But it is not NEC.
