Happy (early) birthday to me! 1926 Buescher soprano sax. Did I need it? No. Has it been taunting me on marketplace for months until I finally had an opportunity to look at it in person and pick it up today? Yes. Needs a little TLC, but playable.

Looks pretty good with its siblings already in the collection: 1927 alto and 1922 tenor. All Buescher True-Tone Low Pitch, all silver plated. It's a shame my bari (also Buescher) is from 1955 and brass lacquer finish...

This little fella visited our backyard last night. We do have a red tailed hawk nest in the neighborhood year after year, but they don't normally hang out directly overhead. I did confirm both outdoor pets were accounted for after I saw him.

In more pleasant news, more of our lilies bloomed this week.

Anybody help me identify this wood species? It's reddish in color and has sort of a sweetish spicy scent. It's fairly lightweight, and somewhat soft. I can dent it with my thumbnail, but just barely. This panel is from a set of solid doors that I'm salvaging. Most of the panels are a single piece, not glued together like this one. Pic here is with color calibration cards I got from Amazon just for this purpose.

New home-built router table is terrifyingly loud and I'm pretty sure the RPMs for this router are way too high for this application, but the setup works like a champ! Learned some important lessons about grain direction, but was able to start finishing curves on parts for the Adirondackish chairs. Will definitely have some patching to do on some of these parts.

Little side quest for the Adirondackish chair project. Got this nice CMT pattern bit that only fits in my big Makita router. Without good options for work holding, I decided to build a stand/table for the router. This of course required its own side quest to make a pattern for a slight recess under the top to help locate the router when installing it. Base is sized to fit in my existing mobile tool carts. Had all needed materials on-hand already.

Haven't practiced this much since college (30 years ago). Nothing like getting to play a classic Benny Goodman solo for an upcoming gig.

Current state of the hand plane collection. From left to right:
1: Stanley No 113, knob says "Stanley Ruler & Level Co"
2: unknown brand block plane, has "USA" stamped on the back end
3: Stanley No 220
4: Bailey No 3
5: Companion No 4 (I think), made by Stanley for Craftsman
6: Bailey No 5, cast with "Made in England" at the front
7: Stanley (probably) No 8, sole has grooves machines through the length
8: unknown transitional, bigger than the No 5, but maybe not quite as long as a No 7
#3dprinting project for the weekend. Little box with hinge and clasp. Bought a package of hobby knife blade refills and the crappy plastic box they came in didn't stay closed. Thought it would be good practice in #FreeCAD to put this together. Followed a tutorial video for most of it, making a few changes. I had to file the hinges a bit so they would fit. Probably one more draft would be perfect, but this is good enough for this exercise.
