The Heartbeat of St. Mark’s Place
Fun story in today's NY Times about Charles FitzGerald, the so called landlord of Greenwich Village's St. Marks's Place, the street that has and will hopefully continue to be the beating heart of the East Village's counterculture vibe: Mr. FitzGerald, strong-jawed and sarcastic, said by his own account that he was not especially good at running the finances, which often created stress for his family.
Sega Founder Has Died

All The Words on NYC Signage
An absolutely spectacular project from The Pudding. They basically did a text/word/phrase scan of all the public Google Maps images of the five boroughs of NYC to find out what were the most used words and phrases in the city. And the results are incredible. The scale of the data is immense: over 8 million Google Street View images (from the past 18 years) and 138 million identified snippets of text.
