Using circular saws and chisels, she and her assistants have patiently carved and chipped at cedar 4-by-4's to create this monumental form.

"Ocean Voices II” is an epic wood sculpture. Ursula von Rydingsvard has created sculptures out of cedar wood for the past 35 years. Her longstanding use of wood is linked to memories of the makeshift structures that her Ukrainian-Polish family inhabited while moving from one displaced-persons camp to the next across postwar Germany.

“Fashion In Flight: A History of Airline Uniform Design” was on display, from June 16, 2016 to January 08, 2017 in the International Terminal and the Aviation Museum and Library. See our exhibition catalog online at: https://bit.ly/FashioninFlight

Under senior designer Eva Rosencrans (1901–1994), the internationally known New York-based label founded in 1929 by Ben Reig took United’s uniform in a new direction as the jet age progressed. This winter suit, worn from 1963 to 1968, is made in soft bouclé worsted wool created in a new color named Blue Vision. Distinctly more feminine than previous fitted-suit uniforms, the modified box-shape jacket with a bracelet length sleeve and a soft rolled collar is matched with an A-line skirt.

Italian director Andrea Pecora visits Sardinia’s most mountainous region to create a short documentary that celebrates the women of Desulo and the traditional dress that connects their past and present.

See “Billboard Series” by Nance O'Banion, post-security in Terminal 3 and online at: https://bit.ly/4aY25G9

Nance O’Banion was trained as a weaver, but began working with handmade paper as a sculptural medium in 1970. Since then she has become one of the best-known artists working in that medium. Change and transformation are important themes for O’Banion, and "Billboard Series" seems to respond to the transitory nature of the Airport itself as the piece appears to change as the viewer moves around it.

This is your last week to see "The AIDS Memorial Quilt" on display, pre-security, in the Mayor Edwin M. Lee International Terminal Departures Hall and online at: https://bit.ly/AIDSQuiltSFO

#AIDSMemorialSFO #WomensHistoryMonth

Critical funding, research, education, and unlimited access to treatment all lie ahead of the Quilt’s ultimate goal. Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS continues to devastate at-risk populations living in low-income areas and underdeveloped countries. While an estimated 39.9 million people were living with HIV worldwide in 2023, only 30.7 million people were accessing antiretroviral therapy. That year, approximately 630,000 people died of AIDS-related illnesses.
