We've published our new terms of service for mastodon.social and mastodon.online today, effective July 1. The same template will be available as an option to other servers in the upcoming #Mastodon 4.4 update. There are no changes to our policies or operations, just clarifications, e.g. if you upload content to be displayed to other users, you give us permission to display it to other users, but you keep all rights to it. We also explicitly prohibit scraping, even though it was never allowed.
I swear, the amount of Shiny New Object Syndrome in this industry is a frickin' plague

Could we maybe stop talking about LLMs like they are becoming sentient? Amongst other stolen data, they have been trained on a whole bunch of text from science fiction stories about computers becoming sentient, and statistically know how to write that kind of thing.

You're not creating Skynet here, it's just seen The Terminator a hundred times and is quoting your favourite lines at you.

@carnage4life the boring repetitive questions are indeed obsolete, as they should be. That was always the goal of Stack Overflow: you type something into google and have an answer by typing in a question, pressing return, and visiting a link. Now you get it without visiting the link, which is true of MANY websites, not just "the only visible losers". There are a WHOLE LOT of losers here once you remove the click! However, there are always more, deeper, interesting questions to ask -- and new programming languages, new frameworks, new approaches, etc.

I tried. I really tried. I was able to get up to about 30 WPM with Colemak-DH, but fighting years of QWERTY muscle memory is incredibly difficult and very frustrating. My productivity also really plummeted.

I've gone back to QWERTY for now. Maybe I'll try again another time.

Just switched to Colemak-DH. I'd say there's pretty much nowhere to go but up now.

πŸ† Today’s typ.ing:
🌟 Speed: 14wpm
🎯 Accuracy: 94.05%
πŸ“ Training Set: English, most common 100 words
πŸ”’ Capitalization: ❌ Numbers: ❌ Punctuation: ❌
✍️ Lifetime Characters: 10043

My typical QWERTY speed is about 100-105 wpm. So hopefully I can get back to that speed before long.

Find #Vim interesting, but you're hesitant to leave #IntelliJ? You're not alone!

I wrote about my experience using the #IdeaVim plugin, how I've configured it, and how you can try it, too.
