Where has he been for the last year. What has he been doing. How has he missed everything.

Subtooting time. You do not need to reinvent things that already exist. When you make a new thing, you can use adapted versions of old things to get you started. Improving an existing design is not “reinvention”, unless you’re writing marketing copy.
Aeroplane wheels and bicycle wheel did not evolve completely independently. They both share ancestral designs… you can even see this in the history of powered flight! Casters are not brand new kinds of wheels. They add an additional kind of flexibility to another wheel design!
I’m not sure why this should be contentious.
@n2epe So, you hold the mirror in one hand (in my case, the right hand) somewhat behind your head. You extent your other hand out with thumb extended, and shine the mirror at that hand, so you know which way your beam is going.
Then, you put the "L" in your left hand (between index finger and thumb) on your target and then toggle the mirror... the "target" will see flashing, and you know you are aimed at them properly because you have that arm extended as a nearby target.
This triggered a memory of a post-apocalyptic sci-fi book I read a long time ago, which involved genetically engineered whales had a developed a special call that made land mammals cast themselves into the sea and get eaten.
So I looked it up, and was reminded that the rest of the book was amazingly bad, and now I’m freshly annoyed.
This stuff is much more interesting.

I am moving to a usage-based billing
Dear employer, I will no longer charger a flat monthly salary, instead I will move to token based billing. Included will be every token I receive as input, including but not limited to emails, slack messages, spoken words and mandatory multi-modal meetings that could have been emails. Included will also be output tokens in the form of code, documentation and small talk. Tokens will also be consumed by my internal monolog as I reason about problems.
