Deutsche Welle is blocked in many countries. US digital corporations ban apps from their stores so that they can do business in autocracies.

DW is responding with ‘DW - Access’. An app that circumvents government censorship, can be installed directly on Android phones without an app store, and can even be used during an internet shutdown.

As a result of an internal DW hackathon, an app was created in just a few months.
