@brettnelson welcome! It's definitely a learning curve. I recommend that you follow anyone you're interested in seeing posts from, because there's no algorithm to show you their posts otherwise! Also, use hashtags liberally so that people can search for topics that you are discussing, and don't forget to caption your images!

You know what’s great about #mastodon?
I’m greeted w a timeline of friendly folks excited to share cool things: ‘Here’s #music I composed!’ ‘Check out my #art!’ ‘I took this photo of the stars bc #space is magical!’
Even on topics I’m unfamiliar with, the enthusiasm makes me curious to learn more.
I love that this network isn’t set up to encourage snark & reward cruelty. It’s not a race for 🔁 & ❤️ bc they’re not as obvious as on #twitter
It has a real community feel. 2022 needs more of that.
Last year, @hwileniu and I worked with the Helsinki University Press to republish the excellent, but rare volume "Culture and History in the Pacific" (2010 [1990], ed. Jukka Siikala) in digital #openaccess.
The book contains articles by Marilyn Strathern, Aletta Biersack and Valerio Valeri among others.
The page numbers of the new version match the old. With Heikki, we modernized the spelling of Oceanic languages and corrected only obvious mistakes.
Helsinki University Press (HUP) is a fully open access University Press, publishing high-quality scholarly literature. We publish peer reviewed books and journals from all academic fields. We are open for submissions by academics globally. HUP offers professional publishing services for the academic community, and a channel to publish and disseminate their research results effectively, fairly, and globally. Our aim is to bring research available to international academic audiences including readers in the Global South, but also outside academic institutions where accessing research behind high paywalls can be a major challenge. Call for proposals Helsinki University Press (HUP) is seeking book proposals for original research, across multiple disciplines, on the cultural, economic, social, and political dimensions of pandemics (historical and/or present ones). Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling base and proposals are welcome at any point up until 31 January 2023 (at 23:59 EEST). Click here to see the full call for proposals
A bit late - but here's my #introduction as an #histodon:
I'm based in Berlin (Humboldt-University) and currently doing stuff in #DigitalHumanities / #DigitalHistory.
Toots and boosts in English and German.
I plan on posting showcases of digital tools/methods - those will be tagged #HistoTools
I'm decidedly #AntiFascist, #queer and pro #OpenData and #OpenAccess : "Sharing isn’t immoral — it’s a moral imperative"

"When the three researchers laid the map of the internet’s physical infrastructure on top of sea-level rise prediction maps, they saw a striking overlap: Huge sections of important infrastructure were in the places likely to be underwater within 15 years."
