i like alot of things!! so this is gonna be a mix of all that hopefully
gonna be mainly trying to learn more about security and tech stuff on here tho!

Kind and cherished FOSS and computing freedom advocate @sleepyowl (Joyce Ng) has gone missing and there is reason to fear she may have been apprehended by authorities, possibly likely even for being framed. Nobody has been able to reach her and many of us are worried for her safety.

Joyce does work on verifiable open source hardware. She also has been an activist pushing against the rise of far-right Christian nationalism globally but especially in Singapore. Because of this and her identity, she has people who would like to see bad things happen to her.

Probably for this reason, she may have been misidentified by Five Eyes as being a threat actor. Joyce wrote about this concern in November, posting a threatening screenshot where she was tipped off. https://bitowl.online/about

Please spread this wide. Hopefully this is a false alarm but Joyce is a kind-hearted person who fights for human rights and computing freedom; many of us are worried for her safety.

Yeahh, i think i just discovered why my guix config broke cause of this post xD
i didnt find the solution like author did, instead i started seriously considering whether to try the nouveau drivers (hearing theres been good improvement cause of something called nvk) and also decided go deeper into guix than i have till now. I realized especially the breakage due to the finnicky nvidia drivers made me especially averse to touching anything related to my desktop config. If i can play monster hunter with nouveau at approx the same performance i might just stay with it

The whole "AI" industry is just based on the hope that they can deskill people fast enough that they'll have to rent back cognitive support systems. Forever.

It's like Uber. Just that they don't try to break existing transportation infrastructures but your brain.

Another day, another company is reducing IT and software dev jobs to replace them with AI despite many report indicating that Gen AI doesn't work as promised. Get ready for more outages for Jira and co ;) ‘Devastating blow’: Atlassian lays off 1,600 workers ahead of AI push https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/mar/12/atlassian-layoffs-software-technology-ai-push-mike-cannon-brookes-asx

I didn't think Jira could get any more messed up, but I underestimated their commitment to the bit. AI is a bold choice for a platform that struggles with basic navigation. Lmao

Given how core MS, Github, AWS and co are, and their YOLO in the AI code approach. We are probably months out from an utterly catastrophic AI driven availability or security related incident.

for whoever needs to hear this: you're not alone. i'm not vibecoding any of the software i write. i'm writing it by hand, but i've leveled up my emacs with eglot/lsp. i'm modernizing my stacks and use languages with excellent compilers. i think about how to do more with less. i'm trying to combine the best human-written libraries and modules and assemble them with minimal boilerplate. i enjoy reading your manuals and references. i believe in robust, secure, human-written software.
Just salvaged #Guix Explorer from #NotABug, and you know what? It’s still as hypnotic as before. 👇

@divyaranjan
was just wondering a few weeks back if there was doom on emacs xD
really inspiring the kind of stuff you people make possible with emacs!

@divyaranjan yet another demo, this time Minad ported #Doom to #GNU #Emacs. (#Doomemacs?)
